The second day of the Season XVI WPT Maryland which is currently taking place at the Live! Casino has come to an end, with only 29 players to return for the third day of the event, and Grigoriy Shvarts leading the way as a chip leader, holding a chip stack of over 1.5 million in chips.
The WPT Maryland Main Event kicked off on September 30th, offering two starting flights to the players. Day 3 of the tournament is to be held today, on October 3rd, while the final table is set for October 4th. This year, the €3,500 buy-in Main Event gathered a total of 561 entrants who accounted for a total prize pool estimated to $2,000,000.
Matt Glantz Breathing Down Shvarts’ Neck
As already mentioned above, it is Grigoriy Shvarts who has emerged as the chip leader of the pack at the end of WPT Maryland Main Event Day 2. Matt Glantz, however, an experienced American poker player, is breathing down Shvarts’ neck.
Matt Glantz already has an extensive experience taking part in live poker tournaments. His total live earnings to date amount to $6,487,469, and his biggest live cash estimated to $862,837 was generated by him winning the EPT-6-London £20,500 No Limit Hold’em High Roller tournament in September 2009. Now, Glantz has his eyes on is first World Poker Tour title, with only 28 other players left for him to defeat. Until now, Matt Glantz has a total of 16 WPT cashes, but he has neither won a WPT title, nor has he reached an official final table at a WPT tournament.
The largest WPT score of the player to date amounts to $100,912, which he won at the time he occupied the ninth position in the Season XII WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown in April 2014.
Glantz himself commented that he does not really play in many live poker tournaments for the time being, but the WPT Maryland Main Event worked out in his schedule, so he had decided to join the event. Currently, the player seems to prefer more mixed cash games than live poker tournaments. As long as the current WPT Maryland Main Event is concerned, he said that his chances are largely dependant on his table.
Other Notables Who Reached Main Event Day 3
Each of the 29 players left is already guaranteed at least a $12,000 cash portion of the overall prize pool, but only the champion of the Main Event is set to receive the lion’s share amounting to a total of $389,405.
Apart from Shvarts and Glantz, the recent winner of the WPT Legends of Poker Main Event Art Papazyan has also reached Day 3 of the WPT Maryland Main Event. Christian Harder, an ambassador of the Live! Casino also advanced to Day 3, and so did Clayton Fletcher, Ari Engel, Benjamin Morgan and DJ Alexander.
